# Overview

Merlin is an immutable, permission-less and community centric DEX built on ZkSync with a goal to solve what might be called the “liquidity problem”. We achieve this by creating a liquidity environment that is robust and efficient. Consequently allowing builders and users to leverage our infrastructure for deep & readily accessible liquidity. Merlin's vision is to surpass current DEX offerings and, as the first of its kind on ZkSync, set a precedent for the standards required to become the beacon of liquidity of this ecosystem and provide 'True Yields'.

### Revolutionising the Potential of AMM's

Automatic market-makers (AMMs) stand as the leading innovation in the DeFi sector. This was heralded initially by Uniswap, which provided the initial logic for markets created by *x·y = k*. Essentially allowing for zero-assumption based pricing mechanisms that spread liquidity across all prices evenly regardless of the underlying assets. However Merlin has built what we believe to be a predecessor to this initial logic allowing us to precisely focus liquidity around any target price. Thus allowing Merlin to support both Volatile (Uniswap Style) and Stable (Curve Style) swaps, minimizing fees whilst optimizing speed and reliability.

### Core Merlin Manifesto

**I** **Merlin Pledges**, continual aid to the ZkSync ecosystem with a wide range of unique features, enabling participants to benefit from assured flexibility and control over their own liquidity

**II** **Merlin Pledges**, unwavering support to new protocols launching on ZkSync, providing the tools that enable them to launch, bootstrap liquidity, and sustain their growth

**III** **Merlin Pledges**, the implementation of proprietary architecture that can be easily integrated, built upon, and leveraged by other protocols within the ecosystem

**IV Merlin Pledges,** the facilitation of real applicable yields for all liquidity providers in the ecosystem via innovative strategies & strong tokenomics

### Our Commitment to Decentralization & LGE Events

When you go to a lending institution, you conform to their rules and rates, often with limited transparency. These institutions effectively control the parameters and freedom of choice people have and we must levy an element of trust on their guidance and policy. This trust is easily founded but quickly lost and we have seen this in the TradeFi world alongside the Crypto space.

Thus Merlin strives to enable ZkSync and DeFi participants to operate in a fully open, borderless, widely accessible, and transparent environment determined by fixed parameters and permission-less architecture.

By using our [Cauldron Pools](/merlin/protocol/cauldron-pools.md) all projects have a totalitarian control of decided incentives, whilst also enjoying flexible options to build the exact type of liquidity they require to meet their short and long term demands.

### LGE Launchpad

Our unique launch system via LGE's (Liquidity Generation Events) is holistically permission-less allowing all projects the equal opportunity to curate investment for their token launch and liquidity. Merlin has also decided that we will launch our MAGE Token through our launchpad, and we therefore see it as a prime choice that enables teams to raise funds and liquidity in a fast, efficient and decentralized manner.
